Asheesh Tewari, MD, FASRS

   Dr. Tewari is a board certified, fellowship trained, vitreoretinal surgeon. Born and raised in Detroit, Dr. Tewari graduated with honors from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at the Kresge Eye Institute where he served as Co-Chief Resident. He completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Barnes Retina Institute located in Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

   Dr. Tewari served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Wayne State University Medical School and the Kresge Eye Institute. He also served as the Director of the Vitreoretinal surgery fellowship until 2017 when he started the Michigan Retina Center. He continues to play an active role in the teaching of ophthalmology residents and retinal surgery fellows.

   Dr. Tewari has written numerous articles and chapters for publication in national and international publications. He has also been a speaker at many ophthalmology lectures and meetings. His interests include diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, surgical treatment of diabetic retinopathy, and complex retinal detachments. His recent work has focused on new surgical techniques, including small gauge vitrectomy, and novel treatments for macular degeneration.

   Dr. Tewari is an experienced surgeon who treats vitreoretinal conditions using the latest surgical techniques. He was among the first surgeons to employ 27 gauge vitrectomy for repair of vitreoretinal diseases. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. 

Michael Gemayel, MD

   Dr. Michael Gemayel is a board certified, fellowship trained, vitreoretinal surgeon. He earned his undergraduate degree from Oakland University, followed by obtaining his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine where he graduated with honors. Dr. Gemayel then completed his Ophthalmology residency at Indiana University, serving as Chief Resident. He then pursued further training in vitreoretinal diseases, completing a surgical fellowship at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, Louisiana. 

   Born and raised in Detroit, Dr. Gemayel is passionate about giving back to his community, building relationships with his patients, and restoring vision. He specializes in treating diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachments, and secondary intraocular lens placement.  In his free time, Dr. Gemayel enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and rooting for Detroit sports.
